So what exactly is linkbuilding? Search engines expect websites to link to other websites. In this way websites show that they actively participate on the internet. It is definitely not a bad thing to include links to other websites on your website. On the contrary, it can strengten your website if you do it well. But please keep in mind that you must not exaggerate with the amount of links. Also the relevance of the website should be taken into account.
Old vs. New Linkbuilding
In the past, a lot of websites used the trick of including many links in their webpages. The effect? These particular websites ended up higher in Google due to the ranking system. I need to dissapoint you, this old method no longer does the trick. Google has outsmarted all websites that had shares in unrelevant linking. So, you must be wondering: what’s new? For irrelevant linking you can get a fine in terms of low ranking. Google will reward you by doing fair business! Offer real value on your website: create and promote content that is shareable. Search engine optimization is a long game in which a lot of aspects should be taken into account. It is unrealistic to achieve incredible results immediately. If you play it fair and in a sustainable way, then patience will be the keyword of this longterm process.
The do’s and don’ts of linkbuilding
Don’t buy or sell links
It is not a good idea to buy or sell links. Also I strongly discourage you to use automised tools to get links to your pages.
Don’t swop links with other irrelevant websites
If you trade links with other websites that have no additional value for the visitor, Google will punish you. This will show in a longer ranking, which makes it less likely that your website will be visited.
Include too many links
So you have found relevant pages or websites that you want to link to? Don’t exagerrate with the linking! 3 links within one page is more than enough!
Provide the visitors of your website with qualitative content that the reader is interested in!
Focus on quality not quantity
This is probably one of the mistakes that is made very often. People tempt to think that quantity is always good despite of the quality.
