Hi fellow last year students from ICM! It is our ‘last block’, where we amongst other things have to create a webshop during Project E-marketing. In this blogpost I will share with you six golden tips for a successful webshop. It is not about the products that you sell, but about a sprinkle of marketing to boost your webshop. Good luck! 🙂
1) Be unique
The amount of webshops are increasing by the minute. It is essential to claim your spot in the market and stand out from the crowd. Why should people go to your webshop? What do you got to offer that is much better than the rest? A successful webshop has something that others don’t have and communicates this clearly to the outside world. Make sure visitors can see and understand it instantly.
In the first tip, I explained that uniqueness is important to differ from your competition. A successful webshop touches people by a grapping, appealing and unique web design. A new visitor often decides within a few seconds if a webshop is interesting for them yes or no. Just in real life, leave a good first impression! Are your USP’s incorporated in your webshop? Does the design matches the company image?
3) Easy to understand
A new visitor who will visit your webshop for the first time, should without any explaining intuitively surf through your webshop. If the navigation tabs are unclear, there are sloppy spelling mistakes, the call for action is vague or there are unnecessary steps to get to the check-out you are basically screwed. A successful webshop should work intuitively easy, especially for new customers.
By now we all have heard about AdWords and know that you have to pay for starting a campaign. It is ofcourse very simple to buy customers. Often webshop owners don’t pay enough attention to recruit visitors by SEO. Picking the right keywords, an appealing landing page and some optimization can attract a lot of qualitative customers. 5) Deliver excellent service
Selling a wonderful product and delivering it neatly is good. But, if the questions of customers are answered promptly, you find solutions to the problems and you basically go that extra mile for them, that is excellent service! 6) Repeat customers
Most companies can get a lot of profit from repeat sales. Let’s be honest, if a customer has a positive customer experience, chances are very likely that they will buy from you again. Create a customer loyalty program, for example a simple point system to facilitate customers to come back. It is the most common loyalty program. Customers who purchase frequently at your webshop can earn points, which translates into some type of a reward. This could be a discount or a surprise package, customers work hard to collect their reward.
To sum up all the tips for a successful webshop: be unique and communicate it clearly to your visitors, create an appealing web design to grab their attention, easy and intuitive navigation through your webshop, implement SEO, deliver excellent service and make sure to think of a way to get repeat customers.
