What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization is the process of activities to score high in the unpaid (organic) results of a search engine. The higher the results the better. But how do you do that without paying for it (like in Google Adwords)?
In this post I’ll be focusing on Google because that is the market leader in Europe.
Using the right keywords is a very important part of SEO. This is how the people using Google find you, but also this is how you know you attract the right kind of visitors for your website. It is very important to do some research on your keywords before using them. There are multiple tools that can help you with this. The most common one is Google’s own Adword’s keyword tool.
This tools helps you to search for keywords an ad group ideas, shows you how popular keywords were in the past and if they become in the future.
Once you have chosen the all the right keywords, place these throughout your website. In the titles, your content, URL’s and even the names of the images. Always start your page with a keyword that is relevant to that specific page.
But do not go too cray cray with your keywords, this will lead to your website being marked as spam and thus won’t help you any further.
Use keywords in your URL’s to make them more search engine friendly. A clear URL’s is just easier to read.
Good content is important to rank will within the google network. Very important aspect is that your content should be updated frequently. An easy way to this is for example to integrate a blog on your website, this way you are sure that new content is added regularly. Copying content off other websites wont’t work and will eventually even have a negative effect on your rankings.
Also, make sure the content goes together with a clear navigation on your website.
Social media is a very easy tool to share your content with. Distribute links to the content on your website across multiple social networks. This way there will be a lot more places where visitors can view your link.
Crucial for good SEO is internal linking. An internal link is a link that points to another page on the same website. This is necessary for google’s spider robots to find all of your pages. If you do not link all the pages in the eyes of the google’s spider they don’t exist.

External links are links that are not pointed to your own website. A website can have links to your website or you have links to other websites this has strong impact or your ranking. The more links, the better. Google views external links as “third party” votes. More links means that a site is popular and thus google places these higher up in the ranking. That is why it is important to have some external links.

Try to avoid using Flash on your website, because you can’ t link a single page.

If you just joined the SEO Game with a new website and you want to get spidered by Google what do you do? Google has a submission form for those, unfortunately this can take weeks so the quickest way to do is is by getting links from other quality sites.
Call to action
All described above is useless if you don’t have a clear call to action, so make sure that is very clear and present!
