For low-level SEO enthusiasts like myself I found this book to be extremely helpful. It starts off on a level that is easy to follow, and explains comprehensively how link building works, and why it’s important to your overall website and SEO to implement these correctly. Paddy Moogan is an SEO professional who has been working in the field of SEO for more than 8 years, and decided to compile his knowledge of link-building in one 287-page book. The beauty of this book is that it is not only relevant for newbies like myself, but definitely contains valuable information for the more experienced SEO’ers out there as well.
Lately many websites (including those of big brand names such as Home Depot and Interflora) have experienced a drop in their Google ranking. This drop is a consequence of Google’s increasing intolerance of websites it deems as having a low quality ‘link profile’. This illustrates the importance of investing in link building with an ethical approach; it is more important now than ever. The same we can see in Google’s 2015 ranking factors, in which link building continues to play a big role.
SEO for newbies
The first few pages are mainly meant to give newbies a clear understanding of the importance of inbound links to any website, and how trustworthiness in the eyes of search engines is built by doing this. The lesson here is: the more trustworthy your website is in the eyes of search engines, the more likely that the site will rank well organically. Moogan refers to the image on the right to give us an understanding on how important link building is in SEO. Furthermore, he discusses how Google has been focussing more and more on the quality of content in order to optimally service users, and a technical explanation on how this has led to changes in Google’s algorithms. Those details will not be discussed in this post, but are very useful to comprehend for every (aspiring) SEO professional.
Comprehensive step-by-step plan
Moogan follows the technical explanation of link building and the importance of achieving trust, relevance and diversity of a link profile with an extensive step-by-step plan to analyse a website’s linking structure, and how to optimise/execute a campaign.
This is followed by an explanation of the identification and dealing with any potentially damaging link elements which might affect the outcome of a new campaign in a negative manner. Extremely useful information, when I read this it triggered me immediately to review the links of the website I’m doing the SEO for on a freelance basis. This part of the book definitely helped me optimize our page-level link structure.
Opinion of an enthusiast
I found this book to be extremely helpful. With well written, clear explanations of various aspects of the link building factor in SEO it is a must have for any SEO starter, and an awesome guide for optimizing your current website.
The more experienced professional might find information he/she already knows, but the the book is very useful to have. The comprehensive explanations of all aspects and extensive step-by-step plans offer a very useful roadmap for the optimisation of any link building campaign.
Furthermore, with the fast moving changes in the field due to Google’s constant updates in its algorithms, Moogan has stated he wants to update this e-book regularly. Having said this, I think The Link Building Book offers high quality explanations of all aspects in link building and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this to any SEO professional out there. At $37 the price is nothing to keep one from acquiring it, at least not of you’re serious about this field (especially for the people who are new to SEO).
