LinkedIn – the social media platform focused on professional relationships. As of now it has more than 347 million users . People all over the world use it as a tool to showcase their “virtual” CV, to communicate with colleagues, establish connections with companies and engage in different discussions. Well-organized and regularly updated profile there can be an advantage to you when applying for a job, as a significant number of employers check social media presence before taking the decision on your future. Therefore, if used properly, LinkedIn could be a great tool to market yourself to the world.
I imagine, you are already asking yourself the question “What can I do to improve my profile and presence, so I can promote myself more effectively?” Below, I compiled a list of tips and tricks to help you with the answer 🙂 :
- LinkedIn profile visuals
LinkedIn gives you the option to make your profile a little more interesting and engaging. With the professional portfolio, you can include videos, photos, presentations, graphics and even screenshots. Although, this is a great way to make your profile stand out, the majority of people seem to don’t use it or not know about it. Nevertheless, you should maintain your profile’s visuals by updating them regularly in order to keep in date with the swiftly-changing trends.
Except the above mentioned things, you can also add: Speaker videos, articles and work samples.
- Network influencing
The mistake many professionals make on LinkedIn is that they constantly post content without taking into account some factors – Will their network be interested in it? and Will it help them in any way? Network influencing is basically building a real relationship with your network members. Don’t just post with only one goal in mind – to market yourself.
What can you do to become a influencer? Search for the people you think matter the most to your network, (they should be the ones posting content that catches the eye of many others throughout the network, influence them in some way) and examine their profiles. Identify what seems to be important to them, what they strive to achieve and what will they need to do that. Based on that, you should adjust your content. That way you would be able to connect with your network on a more personal level.
Using network influencing, you can develop your relationships with your connections and make yourself standout from the rest. Additionally, you will become more valuable to your network by showing that you pay attention to them. All this will affect your business growth positively.
- Profile Optimisation
In order to achieve better marketing results, you should try to make use of all the features LinkedIn offers – groups, InMail (which is basically direct email to a specific connection), target advertising, etc. Another way to market yourself or your business effectively is by optimising your profile. This includes the following:
– Try to to stand to out from the others. Be different from the already existing mass of professionals.
– Stay real and don’t create a perfect persona only to be liked by our connections. You should try to make your profile both personal and professional because the first thing people do is to check your “personality” followed by your business experience.
– Aim your profile exclusively at your desired target audience. Trying to be liked by everybody on the network might lead to reverse negative effects.
– Make sure you have filled all the different fields LinkedIn provides. When you have new things about your job, life, experience, education, make sure to include it and keep your profile up to date.
Applying the methods from this guide will definitely help your presence on the platform. This is only a short list of recommendations compiled by me. Additional research on the web and even only looking at already well-established profiles can help you to find the weak points you need to adjust on your profile.
LinkedIn can be a great marketing tool and by using it you can create brand awareness, establish collaborations and attract new customers. If you are coming up with a marketing strategy, you should definitely include the professional social network in your plans, because it is perfect to market yourself, your brand, business without spending a fortune on PR and advertising.
