I have been a big fan of tassel pillow and just cannot get enough of them. The great thing about bohemian décor is it can be thrifty and fun and we can create it with our own hands. Therefore DIY items are very popular and common among bohemian décor lovers. DIY is something I do for fun as it is something that creates a satisfying feeling and I do think it adds a value to an object’s worth. I enjoy decorating my room with DIY items and infuse it with a bohemian look. Pillows are so crazy expensive and so easy to make. So today I want to share with you how I created my favorite DIY Bohemian tassel pillow!
All you need is:
- Pillow. Any color or size you like. (H&M Home has cute pillowcases)
- Embroidery floss. Pick several colors. I picked 8 colors so I bought two packets each, which made 4 tassels per color for a total of 32 tassels. (Xenos has various colors, they are really cheap, you can get three different colors for only €3.99
- Thread ( €3.99 for five colors at Xenos!)
- Cardboards for each floss (cut it out with a width equal to the length you want your tassel to be but mine is about 5 cm wide.
Step one Wrap the floss around cardboard a set number of times (around 25 rotations is fine). Be sure that you have equal thickness for each one of them. Cut off excess. Tie it up (each one of them, separately) with a floss at an end of the loop.
Step two Cut the other end of the loop and take the cardboard piece aside.
Step three Cut another 10 cm strand, tine a knot near the top of the tassel. This makes 32 tassels in total, eight on each side of a 18×18 pillow.
Step one Flip the pillowcase inside out, as this makes your life easier when sewing it.
Step two Line the tassels up along the pillow at an even distance and pin them to make sure that they are always in place.
Step three Sew them! Do not forget to place the tassels in between the zipper and the piping (if your pillow has a zipper).
Step four Flip the pillowcase right side out. Go around and pull them slightly to check if they are well stitched.
Actually theses tassels can also be attached to other things as well such as duvet and blankets!
