This week, I have some more tips for you when traveling. Last week, my blog post was aimed at taking the best pictures on your journey. Now I’m going to prepare you for looking good in the picture! I believe this is just as important! But, before I start giving tips, I have to warn you: no make-up tips are included. I think all my male readers can appreciate this 😉
Tip #1: Sneakers are THE musthave
Although every backpacker tells you flipflops are the best look to pull off, it’s not the best choice you can make when traveling. Especially your feet are asking for a better treatment, since walking with a 20 kg backpack on flipflops simply just doesn’t work. Your feet are important and you do not want to get injured because of wearing thongs either now or later (when we’re too old for a backpack). My advice is to get a proper pair of sneakers before starting the journey. Is Asia your first destination? Get cheap sneakers over there. Make sure you leave some space for multiple pairs of shoes in your luggage, since the shoes will be ruined after a few months of hiking.
Tip #2: Loose, long pants
Although shorts are really fashionable back home, when traveling you need long pants more often than you’d wish to use them: visiting a temple, visiting countries with different standards or just to help you against mosquito bites or sunburns. That’s why I suggest you to buy as many loose, long pants as you can get. They sell them everywhere, even at home! Besides that, they’re really comfy for traveling on airplanes!
Tip #3: No make-up is the best make-up
When traveling, there is no need for make-up. Everyone’s having way to much fun to care about what make-up you’re wearing on that adventurous trip or that hike up in the mountains. Besides that, when you have to get up early and there is no proper mirror, do you really want to put extra time into fixing every single spot on your face with your phone? Girls, trust me, the male backpackers are used to it by now! I believe they prefer a natural look over a roommate that needs the mirror for half an hour 😉 But when you’re going out to party, of course girls, go for it! Dress up nicely and impress the boys.
Tip #4: Your least fashionable item while traveling
We’ve discussed the usefulness of torches in my first blog post. Since I believe this was definitely a gadget I’ve missed during my trip, I have to make sure you don’t miss out on the great look with this tool: a head torch. Okay, it might look foolish when you try it on at home, but trust me, I had to use my head torch almost as often as my camera. Make sure you buy one at home, they might be more expensive abroad. And don’t worry about your look, once you start wearing the head torch, more travel buddies will follow.
Tip #5: You’re never fully dressed without a smile
This is my ultimate tip. Did you know that you relax more muscles in your face when smiling? Conclusion: looking angry doesn’t help you, and it doesn’t help others. I love it when people are smiling, since it is an invitation for a conversation, a question on where to go or just a simple ‘Hi, how are you?’. You’ll never know who you might bump into because of your irresistible smile!
