We all love our junk food, but is there such a thing as vegan junk food? When I first switched to a vegan diet, I basically thought I would only be able to eat salads for the rest of my life. But let me tell you, I was so wrong. All your favorite junk foods can be made vegan and even healthy. Whether it’s Pizza, Pasta, Burgers or Fries, there are versions of it that are actually good for you. And compared to their original versions, you can eat as much of them as you want – without feeling guilty. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite vegan junk food recipes, so it’s time for you to go ahead and treat yourself.
Use pita bread or a wrap as your pizza base, top it with a low sodium tomato sauce and then add whichever veggies you want! I personally love to use onions, leeks, mushrooms, tomatoes, roasted red peppers and sundries tomatoes. Bake for 10-15 minutes on 180 degrees and your done. If desired, top with some rucola, baby spinach or kale. I personally don’t use any cheese replacers since I stay away from processed foods, but you can add add some shredded daiya cheese if you want. Enjoy!
Pasta is one of my favorite meals to make, since it is high in carbohydrates and low in fat. Plus, you can adjust pretty much all your favorite pasta dishes to be vegan and low fat, simply by leaving out the animal products and oil. One of my favorite dishes is this oven baked pasta by The Vegan Corner on Youtube. It’s so good, you won’t be able to taste the difference!
Who doesn’t love a good burger? We are all in luck, because vegan Burgers are becoming a huge trend and there’s an endless amount of healthy options available. Even GQ’s best burger of the year is vegan! Olga from Fablunch.com created this super simple Millet Veggie Burger recipe you can easily recreate at home. After tasting this, you won’t ever crave the “real” thing again – trust me.
What’s a burger without fries? Yes, fries are usually vegan, but usually they are also deep-fried in a whole bunch of oil. When I first found out I could make completely oil free but fantastic tasting and perfectly crunchy fries, I was in heaven. And it’s incredibly easy! Just preheat your oven to 180 degrees, cut up some potatoes into frie shaped pieces, add whichever herbs and spices you like and bake for 30 minutes! Trust me, they come out perfectly.
Thanks for reading today’s post and let me know which vegan junk food you will be trying first!
