Ever had a poached egg? If you have, you know it is de-li-cious! However, it is not the easiest job in the kitchen to do. To poach an egg may take a lot of time, can easily be messed up, or you might just struggle finding the correct method… Well then, let me help you out! I’ve surfed down the world wide web on a quest for the best method(s) and found the best way for you to make yourself a posh but above all cheap, healthy and delicious breakfast!
Method 1 – Medium
We start off with fresh eggs. Get them fresh from the farm or buy them from the closest retailer. Preferably buy some biological and wide-range eggs if that fits into your budget, otherwise budget eggs will do as well.
Then you make sure that your water is boiling, that means that there are bubbles coming from the bottom of your pan. Oh – and you might want to fill the pan with at least two litres of water. Now you take your pan of the stove, let it rest for a couple of seconds and put it back on a low heat to simmer. If you throw in the egg when the water is boiling you ruin the egg.
Now you crack your egg into a bowl, and from the bowl you put it into the hot, simmering water where you will let it rest for about 3 to 5 minutes. Don’t touch it, just let it relax and enjoy the bath.
After about three minutes you take your poached egg out, voilá.
Method 2 – Easy-peasy
If you want to be absolutely sure you don’t mess up your poached eggs, put a bit of cling film in a cup and drizzle some olive oil on there. Then you crack your eggs in it, pull all the ends together and tie a knot just above the liquids of the egg. Put in into the simmering water for three to five minutes, and there are your perfect breakfast eggs! You can use this methods if you want to poach a couple of eggs at the same time.
Method 3 – Advanced
Struggling to find fresh eggs? Don’t worry! Spin the water around with a spoon just after you boiled it. While the water is still spinning, drop in your egg. You can only do this one egg at a time, so this method might take you longer than the first if your poaching several eggs.
Delicious recipes with poached eggs
Got old bread? An avocado you bought a week ago? Some salt and pepper? You just got yourself a deliciously healthy breakfast!
Toast your bread. Cut your avocado in halves, use only one halve (leave the pit in the other halve so it stays fresh longer) and spread it out over the toasted bread. Gently lie the poached egg on the avocado spread and drizzle some salt and pepper over it! A bit of ground nutmeg finished this meal. Enjoy!
Don’t like avocado? Try it with Hüttenkäse or ricotta cheese.
Want to use poached eggs as a starter for you dinner party? Combine this little piece of heaven with a slice of ham, cooked green asparagus, some salt and pepper, some grated parmezan cheese and optionally: nutmeg. This recipe can be done in 5 minutes while your friends will talk about it forever.
