Last week I blogged about veganism in my article Veganism 101, I discussed several topics such as what veganism is about, a little bit of history and the existence of different types. Did you miss it? Don’t worry about it, you can read the whole article back with just one click on this link. This week, I will be looking more into the various motivations or reasons someone can have to consider the lifestyle or to stay vegan.
There are many aspects in life that require a decision that is made based on information and personal believes. The same goes for deciding on a certain style of life or in this case a certain diet. As veganism is becoming a more trending topic, nowadays, I wondered about what would motivate people to become vegan. Which considerations would be taken into account to make the decision? Did they choose the lifestyle because they felt bad for the animals? Or did they become vegan for health reasons? So, I did some research to find out more. During my research I discovered that there are many different reasons that can motivate people to become vegan or stay vegan. The most common reasons are listed below:
One of the most important reasons to become vegan is for the animals. Living life on a plant-based diet in order to prevent the exploitation of animals is the motivating factor in becoming vegan or staying vegan. Besides, it being a motivating factor, it also can be seen as taking a stance against animal cruelty and exploitation in the food industry.
This is also a good motivation to go for a vegan lifestyle, one of my friends has this reason for becoming vegan. There were too many ingredients in a normal diet that she had allergic reactions to or her body could not handle it. Now, she is vegan and enjoying food so much more compared to her old diet.
The trend of becoming healthier is also catching on in the food industry, just looking around you will be able to notice slight changes. For example, the supermarkets promote fresh products and have a special green section. Cafés and restaurants are changing as well by serving biological, fresh and organic dishes.
I mentioned before in the section health that the world is changing to a more greener way of living. Choosing to have a vegan lifestyle helps the environment, as producing meat and other animal products burdens the environment.
It is not just the production but the whole process before the production that exhausts the environment. The animals need water and crops to develop before they get transported and finally processed into food. Veganism has an easier and more effective process that has less impact on the environment when it comes to the amounts of crops and water that is needed for a production process.
