It’s that time of the year when you need to decide on which music festivals to go to next year since you do need to register already. To make this decision easier for you, we’ve reviewed three of the festival highlights of 2015 (which you can also read if you don’t want to make any plans for next year yet, but simply feel nostalgic missing the festival or winter depressed).
Pretty much the only bad thing you can possibly say about the Dekmantel festival of 2015 is that the line-up was THAT GOOD, you couldn’t decide which stage to go to because there were so many awesome people playing at the same time. How do you possibly chose between Ben Ufo and Joy Orbison who were both playing their three hour sets on Saturday night? But the line-up didn’t only include major acts like Ben Klock and Ame & Dixon, it also guaranteed a variety of music for all lovers of electronic dance music. While DJs like Marcel Dettman and Carl Craig were representing techno, there were also a lot of house tunes played by Midland and Move D among others. All four stages were fully equipped with brand new function ones, so don’t you worry about the sound but rather about dancing to close to the speakers for the whole day. Dekmantel festival 2015 only had 5000 tickets to sell and chances are that they won’t be that much more this year in order to keep the small festival atmosphere. If you want to go next year, make sure you already register.
But before you go there totally unprepared and not sure what to wear, let’s have a look at what people wore this year. All in all, it can be said that the approach ‘less is more’ was not only applying to the stage design, but also to fashion. The crowd who was mostly in their 20s decided on wearing shorts and a T-Shirt, which doesn’t mean they were not fashionable, but taking a more simplistic strategy. Yet, you could still see a lot of different patterns on these shirt (especially on the guys). What you should also keep in mind when packing your festival bag is that Dekmantel takes place in Holland. So bring something waterproof because chances of it raining at some point are as high as Sandrien and Inigo Kennedy dropping the beat in this Dekmantel set of 2015.
What makes the Dimensions festival so special is its’ most unique location. It takes place in Croatia close to a military port called Punta Christo, which is surrounded by ancient ruins. During dimensions four days and nights you can choose whether you want to go dance at the beach, at a boat or in the spectacular amphi-theatre (among many more stages). Dimensions’ visitors are from all over the world and dedicated to the music rather than only partying. Of course the line-up did not disappoint their expectations. One of the musical highlights was Motor City Drum Ensemble (see former blog post) and his set B2B Jeremy Underground, which emotional end actually moved the German DJ to tears. More funky tunes were delivered by George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic crew, only to mention a few. This video of the festival highlights 2015 says more than words can ever say.
Everybody who feels like going there next year should make sure to pre-register for tickets to make sure you can be part of this musical experience! But not only the music is one great tool to express yourself. What is also particularly special about Dimensions festival is the variety in fashion and outfits. You might see some people being dressed as Indians one day and then wearing glitter all over their bodies the next day. At Dimensions there is no limit to creativity when it comes to what to wear, so feel free to bring anything you feel like. Just remember it’s Croatia, not Holland, so no need for a rain coat!
What is there to say about Burning Man except that it is one of the most special festivals on this planet? It doesn’t make sense to elaborate on the line-up (which is not released before the festival) because the whole experience of the Burning Man is about being part in a community dedicated to music. There are no rules, no regulations, not even money! You trade stuff instead of buying it. The festival taking place in the desert of Nevada is where a whole bunch of creatives minds come together and form a temporary community where everybody is able to express themselves. Despite this amazing location the Burning Man has been known for its’ interactive artwork and of course the actual burning man. Because this experience can be quite overwhelming, have a look at this useful survival guide we found.
In terms of what to wear there is no advice to be given hear. Only you can decide what (or what not) to wear at Burning Man! Can’t wait? Then check the Burning Man countdown and get more and more excited.
So after reading this, you hopefully made up your mind about where you want to go in 2016 and know which outfits to put in your backpack. If not, you at least spend some minutes not worrying about where to go for New Year’s Eve. But this concern will also be dealt with in one of the following blog post, so don’t you worry.
