The Netherlands is known for many things, especially for cheese or stroopwafels. But there is one more thing you can find on every corner in every city: Pancakes. Utrecht also offers some fancy “Pannenkoeken” places you totally need to check out yourself!
As I fall for everything that is sweet, I have also been to some “Pannenkoeken” restaurants during my exchange semester.
Here are my most favorite places to have some nice and tasty pancakes in Utrecht:
De Oude Muntkelder
For students I recommend this place especially on Mondays and Tuesdays as “De Oude Muntkelder” has a special offer these days: All You Can Eat Pancakes for only 10,50 Euros J You can choose between ten different types of pancakes, that have one ingredient. This is a perfect opportunity to try as many different crepes as you want. But I am honest; I never make more than three pancakes at once.
PS: Don’t forget to bring your student ID!
But of course you can go any day to eat pancakes. This place offers over 80 sweet and salty pancakes. You are also able to mix it. For example, one half of your pancake with apple and raisins and the other half with cheese and ham.
As the restaurant is placed right next to the canal, you can sit outside on warm days and enjoy the nice Dutch atmosphere.
Theehuis Rhijnauwen
This pancakes place is actually not really in Utrecht, but also not really far away. You get there is easily with bus, bike or car. It is just a quick nice ride into the middle of the forest of Amelisweerd. You can also come by canoe, if you want 🙂
I would recommend it more for families or big groups, because it is really relaxed place out of Utrecht. Perfect for lazy Sundays, also for kids. After stuffing your tummy with delicious pancakes you can go take a nice walk in the woods or even visit the Kasteel Rhijnauwen, that is close to the Theehuis.
Here you will get a big variety of different pancakes, whether you like it sweet or salty. I promise you won’t be disappointed. I had my best pancake here so far.
So if you feel like having some nice pancakes, visit one of these places 🙂
