Always wanted to ditch your electric charge? Here is your chance with the new gadget that lets your phone charge with the use of water. Curious? Read on…
It sounds impossible: charging your phone without an actual charger. The Swedish start-up company MyFC came up with this new technology. They call it dubbed JAQ and exists out of two items; a port where there is room for a power card.
Water and oxygen
The fuel cell charger works with saltwater and oxygen. The card contains saltwater and the port can let water through. This can then be converted into energy. The only thing you need to do is plug your phone into the port with a cable. For more information check out the page of the company! (http://www.myfcpower.com/pages/fuel-cell-energy)
Unfortunately it is not possible to re-use your power card. After you activate the card, the chemical reaction that occurs makes sure you get electricity. This reaction can occur one time. One card should be enough for an iPhone 6S to be fully charged. For bigger devices (tablets etc.) you can use multiple cards to charge.
Hold your horses! This piece of technology is not for sale yet. The Swedish company does think they will ship the gadget later this year (2016). It is not sure how much the device will cost. For now the only information I have is that the company wants subscribers. Customers will receive a couple of cards each month and can also buy them for about 1 dollar 50 each.
I am definitely interest in such a device. I am just curious in what countries the gadget will be available. Also, how much it will cost to become a subscriber. This would be a useful charger when you do not have any power (for example when backpacking).
Would you rather buy this charger or stay with your ‘normal’ charger?
