We all know the famous Coca Cola Christmas truck that drives through many countries and cities. For Coca Cola Christmas is associated with love, warmth and happiness, something that refers to the ideas of Coca Cola as well.
History
In 1995 Coca Cola first introduces the Christmas lorry and there the nostalgia started. The advertisements began with a small lorry named ‘Christmas Caravans’. In 1998 the advertisement was broadcasted in more than 100 countries and seen by millions of viewers. This is one of the most widely commercial that Coca Cola has ever produced. From then on the Christmas advertisements were renewed and shown every year on the television. Since 1998 it’s hard to imagine a Christmas without seeing a Coca Cola Christmas ad.
Idea behind the Christmas Trucks
The Christmas trucks of Coca Cola give the sales of Coca Cola a boost during Christmas. The audience gets exposed to the commercials and thus reminded of the drink and brand. During the Holidays lots of people have family or friends coming over, which means: lots of groceries. This is the time where Coca Cola has to peak. Because of the nostalgia of the Christmas commercials, customers associate Coca Cola with the Christmas Holidays and thus buy the drink.
But not only the commercials are a success. The trucks that drive by in real life are successful as well. People go to the cities where the truck drives by and are able to drink the drinks and taste new releases, such as Coca Cola Live. This way of interactive selling (experience selling) is very popular nowadays.
Who knew that inventing the Christmas Caravan in 1995 would still be a success in 2015/2016?
