This week, we have set up a contest for you. Lately, we’ve been seeing lots of decorated Starbucks cups on our Instagram feed, and we can’t help but love all that creativity! All you’ll need is a set of pens and a Starbucks cup and you’re good to go. Our five favourite submissions win and get a chance to come meet us at our Dutch headquarters. We’ll give you a tour around and there’s a goodiebag waiting for you with all our favourite things…
To give you some inspiration, we talked to 23 year old designer and illustrator Florencia Selvi, who lives in Indonesia. Her Instagram is definitely one we love! She decorated the lovely Starbucks cup below:

How did you get into drawing and illustrating?
“My grandma was a painter and when I was little I loved to go over to her house to see her paint. She taught me how to use colours in my work and draw figures. Sadly, she passed away six years ago, from old age. All through secondary school I would draw on all my papers, which I don’t think my teachers appreciated very much (she laughs). I went to art school after secondary school, and it kinda went from there.”
How do you get your inspiration to decorate a cup?
“I love nature and soft tones. In my free time I often go outside to walk the dog in a park nearby, and I love seeing the trees change every season. I suppose that particular park largely inspires me. Nature is so diverse – I love to try and draw it.”
Which tools do you use to draw?
“I use watercolour mostly, as I think it makes the colours come out better. The oil I use is from a brand called Winsor & Netwon. However, watercolour can be messy and quite tricky, and it took me a while to get used to it. Drawing with pens is definitely more precise and better if you want your drawing to be more detailed.”
Do you have any tips?
“I would advice everyone to try and draw on a piece of paper first before you start drawing the cup. You don’t want to make a mistake on the cup! Make sure you know what you want to draw before you start. As for what to draw I think there are no limitations there. Draw whatever you like.”
