Hello, my lovelies! It’s time for another post. Today’s post is about something that has been bugging me for so long, I wanted to write about it but I absolutely had no idea how, so here I’m to talk about the key to happiness. It’s really hard to define happiness because it’s a feeling and mostly it’s difficult to describe feelings. I personally feel like everyone has their own definition of happiness based on the things/actions/emotions they tend to relate to happiness. Well according to oxford dictionary happiness is satisfaction, pleasure, and cheerfulness, which is again not really a definition of happiness but satisfaction and pleasure in some things/actions make us happy.
Trust me happiness lies within you, it comes from inside and you have to find it yourself. You might be feeling alone at the moment, missing your friends and family from Pakistan but you got to get yourself out there. You came to the Netherland with some goals in your mind; you can’t achieve them if you are not happy and cheerful.
Here’s my little guide to happiness and how you can overcome your inner gloominess.
1: Be selfless:
We are humans and choices we make are based on our personal desires. We live in a very selfish way. It’s our nature to always think about ourselves. We always put ourselves first but trust me the most admirable thing to do in life is to live for other people and in turn you will become happy. Westerners belong to individualistic culture; they are thought to be very self- centered while us Easterners belong to collectivist culture. Helping others is like in our blood; I’d say embrace it and spread happiness get happiness.
2: Do not live in past:
Honestly it is very simple but quite hard to understand in real life. What happened yesterday is done, can you change it no, unless you can travel back in time. Stop thinking what happened last week or year that time is gone, learn from past and move on, do not live in past it will only make you regret. Live in now because what you have is now, “now” is your time to make happiness do not waste it thinking about yesterday or tomorrow. My advice to you, especially to newcomers from Pakistan, is to let go of past what happened in Pakistan stayed in Pakistan move on, live in present and work towards a better future.
3:L et go of grudges:
Try your absolute best to let go of the grudges. My beautiful lovelies listen to me carefully holding on to the grudges for long is bad for your health and your happiness. If somebody pissed you of last week, it was last week let go of it. You think someone did you wrong talk to him or her instead of holding the grudge. Holding on to grudges will eat your happiness, that thing is probably long gone. Forgive people or talk it through, do not hold things inside you. As I mentioned earlier you have to create your own happiness and in order to do that let go of the grudges, don’t let them hold you back.
4:D o not care what people think:
There has been a meme circling around on Pakistani social media pages quoting “what will people say has killed many dreams”. I 200% agree to this. We Pakistanis live in a society where we care too much about other people. You can never make society happy there will always be anything or everything you are doing wrong. You my friend! do your thing, live to do what you want to do.
For example I’m living in the Netherlands for almost six years and my parents still lecture me about what will people say. I don’t care what will people say, there’s no way I can make them happy thus instead of caring about what others think I should concentrate on what I think of myself. People don’t know your story, they don’t know what you are going through, they will say things anyway, and you can’t hold their mouth. Do your thang and stop caring what society think of you. Don’t let anyone make you bad about yourself, there’s no one like you, you are unique.
This is my little guide to happiness now it’s your turn to create your own guide. Happiness comes from within, don’t let anyone or anything hold on to your happiness. Here’s what I want you to do, make a list of few things that matters the most to you and makes you the most happy in the world and use that list as your guide to happiness in your daily life. Comment down below if you want to add anything or have any suggestions. I’ll see you guys next week ciao.
