Hey, Hola, Hoi!
Happy Holidays! I hope you all had lovely Christmas and New Year’s celebrations 🙂
We just passed the time of decorations, fireworks and sparkle. I, on the other hand, was inspired by color this season. That’s why today’s tutorial is going to involve lots of shades. I also used one of my favorite color blocking techniques to tone down the bright colors and make the look more wearable.
1) Nail tape. I found mine in the nearest dollar store but, if you can’t get your hands on one, you can cut out stripes from regular scotch tape – that’s what I used to do before. 🙂
2) Black nail polish. I used my favorite black polish from the ICI PARIS house brand, Only You. It is a bit up there in price compared to the others I used in this tutorial, but it is so opaque and easy to apply. It it is absolutely worth it.
3) Three (or more) colourful nail polishes. You can pick any colors and as many colors you prefer. I chose red and a turquoise polishes from Hema and a vibrant blue nail polish from Miss Sixty (available at Etos).
4) A pair of scissors to cut the tape.
Paint one stripe onto each of your nails. I have started with the red color but it is completely up to you which one you use first.
Continue on painting the different colored stripes. I used 3 colors for this design but there is no limit to how many you decide to use.
Once the nail polish is dry, it’s time to place the tape stripes. As you can see, I used a few different variations. It is totally up to you. You can chose to place them similarly on each nail or do it like me 🙂
After placing all the stripes you can go ahead and paint one layer of black nail polish over them and wait for it to dry.
Make sure that the polish is dry then slowly and very carefully peel off the stripes. Here is the result!
I absolutely love this look because it allows me to use a lot of color (and I am someone who doesn’t use a lot of color in her personal style) without it looking over the top. This is also a very universal design that you can pair with lots of different outfits.
What do you think about this design? How do you like to use color in your looks? Share your ideas with me in the comment section down below 🙂
