The excuse I hear the most for not working out is ‘There is not enough time to work out’. We are all busy…but to be honest, most people I know, who work out every day, are really busy people. Their key word in life is’ dedication’ it’s a cliché, but it’s true. If you want, you will find a way! I’ve got some tips and tricks how to exercise when you have little time.
Have you ever skipped work, school or taking care of your kids because you didn’t feel like it? Make your routine part of your day, and stick to it. I guess you never say ‘hmmm am I going to work today? Naaa, I’ll go tomorrow, not enough time todat’’ so make sure you’ll never say ‘hmm, I’m not going to work out today, not enought time, I’m going tomorrow’. Don’t think about it too much, just go. You can also pick certain group lessons at your gym, for some people a set time helps a lot! Or make sure you and a friend go for a Wednesday evening run every week.
Use your time wisely
Most gyms are open pretty early. You can do a 30 minute workout before you go to work. Once you get used to get up early, it gets doable, trust me. You really don’t have time in the morning, or live to far from your work and have to travel too much? Maybe you can find a gym close to your work! Done with your working day at five? You can be done with your workout at six easily! (Want to do both strength and cardio in your little time? Take a run to the gym, you have to get there anyways! Or take public transport to your work in the morning and run back home afterwards!). You have an upcoming exam? Ever thought of taking your summary on the treadmill? No options for you? Search for ‘home workouts’. You can watch TV and get fit at the same time!
Make sure you know what you are going to do
If you don’t have enough time, but still want to do a quick workout, you can make your own HITT (high intensity interval training). Just get yourself a piece of paper, write down 5 exercise you can do at any time/any place and do them for 50 sec each. 10 sec to catch your breath. Then go to the next one. Repeat your round of 5 exercises for 4 times and you are done in exactly 20 minutes. By writing down you make sure you don’t have to spend any time on thinking about what you are going to do in what order, you can start right away! (And of course you can use your HITT workout for a longer time. Can’t find any inspiration to make your own HITT routine, just get it from the internet!)
Really no time at all
If you really do not have a second left in your day (I have once worked an 18 hour shift, It sure can happen) than make the best out of it! Use the stairs (if no one is around you can do squats and lunges on it!) Lift your grocery up and down, or make lunges with it (hello shoulders and butt!) walk as much as you can and try to tension your muscles. While sitting at your desk you can tension your abs, but and legs. Every bit helps!
Not enough time is not an excuse, is you want to work out you can either make or find time to do it! The question is, are you willing to spend the time wisely?
