Today I want to involve you into the magic of the Bulgarian mountains. The country has more than 35 mountains and mountain massives and each one of them has a unique atmosphere. One of the most famous ones are Rila , Pirin , Stara Planina , Vitosha and Rodopite. They are magical places which reveal the true virgin nature of the country and can be easily reached for not more than 1 hour drive from the nearest city. They represent the rich history of the country as many symbolic battles have been held through the years. The roads through the massives are made from people who visit the places and the atmosphere is authentic on a 100%.
The “Balkan” area of Europe which the country inhabits is covering parts in four different countries. It includes Serbia, Bulgaria,Macedonia and Bosna and Herzegovina. Balkan on the local language means “a mountain” so you can imagine what symbolic meaning they have for the people.
The first mountain which I woud like to introduce you is Rila. It is the highest one in the country and the local people call it the “cold heart” the name comes from the view to the mountain from few kilometers which looks like a heart. It is a beautifull majestic place with wild and diverse nature as even mustangs can be seen running wildly on 4000 meters height.
The highest peak of the mountain is called “Musala” with height of 2925,2 its placed 6th top peak in whole Europe. First you need to travel for an hour with an summer lift untill you reach the summit and then you walk for 5 more hours. But the height is not the most important here. Rila has a wonder hiding inside, around 300 meters before the top there is place called “The Seven Rila Lakes” . There are seven lakes located next to each other with each of them containing crystal water which the locals say it’s healing. This is one of the most beautifull places that you can visit and the feeling standing there is unexplainable.
The second mountain which I will present you is “Vitosha” . It is extremely popular one as its located 5 kilometers from the capital of Sofia. It is a very friendly mountain as most of it is plain fields and it’s around 1700 meters. Many people from the city are taking picnics every weekend. It is a rather wild place and while you feel close to the civilization you can see a lot of deers and other forest animals.
A very famous place in the mountain is “Kopitoto” it is a rather south edge of Vitosha and it is a Television channel antena post which is giving signals to the region of the country. You can go there with a car and can enjoy the view over the city from there and maybe enjoy a good bulgarian beer.
Pirin is the second highest mountain in Bulgaria and it’s called “The Rocky Heaven” . As you can judge by the name it is a mostly rocky massive on the top but in the summit it is miles of green. The top peak is called “Vihren” and it is 2914 meters. The cleanest water in the whole country runs from the top and many people come to visit the place to refill their soul and belly with it.
Pirin is famous for its winter sports venues and one of the top destinations for snowboarding and skiing in Europe. In the winter it becomes as cold as -10 and there is 2-3 meters of powder snow which is perfect for the lovers of the winter sports. You can see nowadays projects starting for resorts connected with the mountain and from one side is good because it supports the local infrastructure.
I hope you liked what you have just red and I hope to see you next week again with a new story about Bulgaria! Next week I will present you the history of the country and will introduce you to a world known only to the ancient inhabitors of our planet. So see you soon!
