Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe as it’s first settlements date from the far gone 681 a.c. It has been first settled by a persian tribe which came from the east and conquer the lands after the “big river”. The people back than were famous for their horse riding and breeding skills and for their warriors spirit. The country was growing at some moment its borders were spread on three seas controlling the terithory of modern greece, macedonia and parts of serbia. However the prosper Bulgarian kingdom was separated by the greed of two brothers Ivan and Asen in 1420 and when the country was attacked by the Ottoman empire they didn’t even helped each other and lost the battle surely and fast.
Nowadays the country can be called as “democratic” after it passed a period of monarchy for thirty years and than a communist regime for 50. Although the democracy was waited with passion the results after 25 years are disastrous as the country corruption on the highest level is enormous and most of the funds given by the European Union doesnt find their destination. The people nowadays live happy and most of them will tell you that everything is good as last years foreing investitions broad a lot of opportunities to work in the IT sector and the country is even called t”the sillicon valley of Europe” .
But before everything of this has started, on this lands has been standing the great roman empire. In most of the cities in Bulgaria can be found ruins of monuments , village walls , cities and churches which have been kept in the same condition dating more than 2000 years before. I will guide you through some of the most famous artefacts found around the country.
The capitol of Sofia is the biggest city as it has more than 2.5 million inhabiting and more than 1 million living there for almost the whole year aswell. Around the whole center a diggings can be found with various roman sights. One of the most notable one is the St.George church which is older than 2200 years. Some experts say that maybe the christianity has started exactly there.
Many ruins are found around the city center and some of them even got turned into a good background for few of the metrostations underground. This are ruins of the roman empire which was operating in this lands more than 2000 years ago.
In the mythical city of Plovdiv which was stated the top 3 ancient cities of Europe recently and its older than 1500 years, can be found aswell a very interesting monument. An Amphitheater which has been held in a very good condition and it seems that is older than 2000 years minimum.
The theater is a big attraction for the tourists and the natives and they cherish many celebrations on it. This is such a majestic monument that once a singer spread his voice it can be heard with a crazy magic. The ancient history of the country has proven that only great warriors and minds have lived over this lands for the past 2-3 thousand years.
The best is still yet to come as archeologist found a temple palace older than 8000 years!!! Yes that’s correct ! Perperikon is part of a giant palace complex which bigger part is destroyed by the Ottomans in 13th century but still amazingly big part of the structure survived and nowadays it can be seen as the biggest attraction of the region. In those place there was aswell a kings palace and numerous nations have inhabited the land such as Romans , Goths , Byzanthiums and Tracks.
