In this blogpost I would like to introduce you to the other face of my country – Bulgaria. I want to get the reader to an adventure which he will enjoy and will leave him curious. I want to unveil 5 of the most memorable places in the country which can be appropriate to visit from all corners of the globe.
Nowadays many people know Bulgaria as just a small european country , a country which was part of the Iron Curtain or just the “poorest country” in the European Union. In fact maybe all this is true , but this is what people perceive judging by the image of the country in the news or the media. Actually Bulgaria is a country enriched with amazing nature and humble 4-season weather. It is a country which combines ancient mountain landscape with a golden sand beach side on the edge of the warmhearted black sea.
Few of those who has visited the country has left unimpressed by the seaside riviera. It is a magical combination of cheap prices , good service and amazing nature. In my first blog I want to meet you with the famous “Bulgarian riviera”. It is located around 300 kilometers south from the capital Sofia and it is with an overall of over 150 kilometers. It consists of 2 big cities (Varna and Burgas) and more than 30 smaller cities which have hidden the magic of the ancient winds.
The sand is golden , the water is crystal and the temperature is not less than 30 and not more than 35 degrees. The bulgarian riviera is hiding the ultimate combination of beach lying just infront of a forest and a mountain. You have the comfort of getting tan on the sand and in the moment you feel that the weather is getting too hot to handle you can easily jump up in the forest behind you to prepare your barbeque.
There are many small cities which all share the same architechture style and same spirit. They are more than 7 to 8 hundred years old and some of them dating even to a thousand years before. They have changed a lot through the years but they still keep the spirit of a place to rest and enjoy beautifull connection with the nature.
Sozopol or Apolonius from ancient greek , is one of the most beautifull and old cities in Bulgaria. It’s origins are dated way back around 9th centure after christ. It is a true representative of the riviera and is presented by two parts – The new city and The old city. The architechture is beautifull and keeps decades of history inside. The people celebrate many wine celebrations around the summer and many fishing celebrations as the city is famous with one of the most skillfull fishermans. You can enjoy all this celebrations for free and be aware only of one thing – the only thing that Bulgarian people like to do more than eating is drinking!
Sozopol is only one of the many cities . The riviera includes (achtopol, sinemorec, nesebar , sunny beach , golden sands, albena , tzareva , primorsko and many more). If you do not prefer the relax and comfort there is a special places that you should visit. One of the most famous summer destinations throughout europe recent years has become “Sunny Beach”. It is famous for its lawless drinking and 24/7 parties which never ends. It is full of tourists and most of the Bulgarian people avoid it as it is overcrowded and merely poluted. But if you would like to have a good party on the beach this is the place to be !
