Congratulations! You are getting married and the big day is coming up. Some dream about it for years, some find it a bother. Organizing a wedding big or small should be a breeze of happiness.
Following tradition of a one year engagement I would like to give tips and guidelines what you should arrange and think about 12 months before your get married.
12 months before the big day
How: What do you want your wedding to look like? Do you want a one day wedding or do you want to do dedicate a whole weekend to this special occasion? Another big thing to consider is how do you want to get married, do you want to visit city hall or also have religious ceremony? These are some questions you as a couple have to decide for yourself and see what is best for the two of you.
Date: When choosing a date you should take into account the holidays. For as many of you guests may have other obligations already. Are you really aiming for a special holiday wedding? Than I suggest talking to your key guests first before deciding. If you have a special venue in mind then I advice talking to them first. Otherwise you van run into the problem that the venue is booked for the date you desire.
But most of all keep in mind that the date is something that will be with you two the rest of your lives, so choose a date that feels right to both of you.
Guests: Who do you want to invite? 12 months before the wedding I advice to make a temporary guest list so you have an indication of how many you would like to invite.
Wedding Planner: Feeling alone in organizing the big day? Or is there a part you are dreadid to do? Then it is wise to consider a wedding planner or a professional ceremony master. They can help you plan the wedding of your dreams and on the the itselfs they will make sure everything goes smooth.
Budget: Set a preliminary cost plan and keep it regularly up-to-date. Important: Take into account the biggest costs for exemple the locations, wedding rings and your outfits.
Location: If it is correct you already decided how you want to celebrate your wedding. Now it is time to find the perfect location. Visit a few locations and try to book as early as possible your venue(s). Do you want to have an outdoor wedding? Then also keep a bad weather alternative in mind. Ask if the location has possibilities to set up a tent or has a place to hold the ceremonie inside. While visiting the venue keep in mind how many guests you are expecting. This because you want everyone to fit in the room. Also keep in mind that it is not too big, a to big venue can take away from the athmotspere and special feeling of a wedding.
Mood board: Do you want a theme wedding or do you have a perfect feeling in mind for your wedding? Making a mood board with colours, pictures and anything that makes you think of your perfect wedding can help you make that day reality.
(For some example wedding mood boards you can take a look at bridalmusings moodboard tips and tricks.)
Wedding team: Set up a wedding team. Ofcourse you and your partner but also who is going to be your ceremony master(s), witnesses, bridesmaids, flower girls and if you decide to a wedding planner.
Insurance:Close off a potential wedding insurance.
I hope the above guidelines and tips will help you of to a start with organizing your perfect wedding. Next blog more tips and guidelines what is next in your adventure of organizing the big day.
